A legend tells of the time when God giving
away land to the people and the Bulgarians arrived late. Because
they came last and there was no more left God gave them a piece
of his gardens.
The mountains award us with the most impressive natural scenery
in Bulgaria, making up for half of its territory. The four largest
mountain ranges are Rila, Pirin, the Balkan Range (or the Balkans
which gave its name to the peninsula) and the Rodopi Mountains,
each with its own individual appearance and beauty.
The possibilities for tourism and trekking are endless –
from undemanding treks to technical routes with different denivelation,
from nights spent in huts to completely autonomous treks, either
in a single mountain or in a combination of two or more mountains.
